New Neuroma Treatment
Q : I have pain and cramping in my toes. Sometimes the pain radiates into my leg. My doctor told me I have a Morton’s neuroma and suggested surgical removal. Is there any other option?
A : There are a number of treatments for Morton’s Neuromas. Some of the conservative treatment options include wearing different shoes, custom orthotics, cortisone injections and padding. Alcohol injections have also been known to give some relief to neuroma sufferers. When conservative treatments fail, then surgery is recommended. A new surgical treatment for neuromas is similar to endoscopic carpel tunnel surgery. This endoscopic procedure transects the intermetatarsal ligament that is impinging the nerve between the toes. The nerve is not removed during this procedure and many patients are back into their regular footwear the next day.
